Legislation comes in two forms: Bills and Resolutions. Anyone (students, faculty, and those unaffiliated with the University) can author either, and every piece of legislation must be submitted to HogSync by its sponsor (who must be an RIC Representative). Legislation is presented every Monday at 7:30pm in Kimpell Hall, and is due by the Wednesday prior at 11:59pm.
If a piece of legislation is a Bill asking for $100 or less, it will be voted on the same night it is presented. If it is any other kind of legislation, it will be presented to RIC house two weeks in a row. The first for questioning of the legislation and its author on the first week, the next week for debate and voting.
Authors are highly encouraged to attend every house meeting that their bill is on the meeting agenda. Dress is business casual unless otherwise specified. If an author is unable to attend any meeting their legislation is presented or voted on, they must prepare a proxy (which can be the sponsor of the bill) to be able to answer any questions that may arise and accept or deny any amendments that may be suggested by the house.
Bills are any legislation brought to house that ask RIC to give money to fund either a hall improvement or program. Resolutions are any legislation asking RIC to support a stance or movement without asking for funding.
