Bill Template and Example:

Steps to Writing a Bill:

  1. Plan a program and make a budget for said program
  2. Decide how much of the program should be paid for by the organization and how much you want to request from RIC
  3. Write a Bill! Check the RIC Hogsync (or above) for examples and the letterhead on which the bill should be written.
  4. Include a budget which lays out what is being bought. Check the budget page to learn how your bill will be scored.
  5. Reach out to an RIC Representative and ask them to sponsor the bill.
  6. Send the finished bill to your rep with enough time for them to review it and submit it by 11:59pm on Wednesdays!
  7. Show up to RIC in business casual to present your bill.

Writing a Bill Check-List:

Ask yourself if your Bill meets the following criteria:

  • Proper format (letterhead and legislation examples on HogSync).
  • Author(s) Name(s), Sponsor Name.
  • Date, Time, Location of event if applicable.
  • Reason for event or reason funding is wanted/needed.
  • List any other sources of funding, as well as amounts of other funding if applicable.
  • List funding being asked for, as well as a tax and/or shipping buffer added on.
    • Typically, you would list this in the text of the Bill, and at the very bottom you would add in a chart breaking down where all of the funding will go. This means an itemized list with the names of items, price of individual items, quantities, price of total items, and tax buffer (see example below).
  • The last paragraph of your bill should read: “And be it further enacted: That all unused funds be promptly returned to RIC.”
